Mary Helen Hunt, Ph.D.

Dr. Mary Helen Hunt is a licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist with school-based and clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Hunt specializes in the assessment of learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, and ADHD. Although Dr. Hunt primarily conducts evaluations on children and adolescents, she also conducts comprehensive assessments for adults who would like to gain understanding of their cognitive profile and processing skills, or who suspect they may have an undiagnosed learning disability.

Dr. Hunt provides individual therapy and coaching for children for issues including stress management, social skills training, self-esteem and grief/loss, and bullying prevention. Her goal in working with children is to improve their coping skills, promote pro-social behavior, build resilience, normalize difficult feelings and experiences, and to prevent the development of more serious problems. She is also a certified yoga teacher and sometimes uses this in her work with children.

With ten years of experience within public school settings, Dr. Hunt understands the value of a cooperative relationship between mental health professionals, parents, and schools in promoting student success. She has experience in the Special Education process from identification of special needs through the assessment, eligibility and IEP process. Dr. Hunt provides training and presentations for educators and parents on topics such as bullying prevention, social skills instruction and interpretation of standardized tests.
