Dr. J. Frank BatkinsJ. Frank Batkins, Ph.D., ABPP

J. Frank Batkins, Ph.D., ABPP is a licensed psychologist and board certified diplomat in family psychology. Dr. Batkins graduated Magna Cum Laude from Old Dominion University, received his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, and completed his doctoral internship in child clinical psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a past president and a national evaluator for the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP, family psychology division), past treasurer and board member of the Georgia Psychological Association's Division of Licensed Psychologists, and expert disability reviewer for the Social Security Administration. Prior to joining our staff, Dr. Batkins was a chief of child/adolescent and emergency services at a mental health center, a university professor and clinic coordinator, and a supervisor of of psychological services within the public schools.

In therapy, Dr. Batkins uses a combination of cognitive-behavioral and family systems-based strategies for helping individuals who struggle with irritability, anger, hostility, anxiety, sadness, depression, and relationship difficulties. He has a specialty in working with angry, oppositional children and adolescents, including those who are often stubborn, argumentative, noncompliant, defiant, and aggressive/violent. He helps youth who have been through traumatic situations including family conflicts, divorce, and abuse or neglect. He also helps parents who feel overwhelmed and exhausted by their child's difficulties and other life stressors. Outside of our office, Dr. Batkins also works as a consulting and supervising psychologist within the state Department of Juvenile Justice and to the Georgia Department of Corrections. He has designed and overseen intervention programs for detained and incarcerated youth as well as suicide and violence prevention programs for adult inmates.

Dr. Batkins provides expert commentary for televison and print media. He is committed to non-profit efforts within the community, and he has provided services for residents of a family shelter and individuals within his practice. He considers it a privilege to practice his profession with those who entrust themselves and their loved ones to him.
